Children and Family Therapy
"There is in every child at every stage a new miracle of vigorous unfolding" - Erik Erikson
I have experience of working in CAHM’s schools and in private capacity with children who have experienced a range of emotional, social or behavioural difficulties, such as ADHD, anxiety, problematic peer relations and conduct issues. Following an initial assessment with parents and teachers and, if applicable, an observation at school, I offer short- or long-term individual play therapy, using metaphor to allows children to express feelings of worry, anger, sadness, fear and loss.
Work with children includes parent reviews as well as offering parenting and family work. I offer work with parents and under 5s, as a great deal of research shows that input at this early stage can be particularly effective. I also see parents of adolescents, where sudden developmental change can make the child they used to know feel like a totally “different being” and they feel at a loss on how to communicate with them anymore.
